The problem

Checking a whole portfolio by hand on the court portal takes hours and is easy to skip. You need a fast, repeatable answer to "is this company in insolvency or being sued, and in what role", for every CUI, as data you can store and alert on.

Response abridged; field names are exact, values are illustrative; role, category and stage values are kept as the court portal publishes them in Romanian (FIRMA SRL and CUI 12345678 are example data, not a real company).

Portfolio pattern

  1. Loop over your CUIs (a script, n8n or a spreadsheet macro).
  2. Alert on summary.insolvency > 0 or on a new case where companyRole is the debtor or defendant.
  3. For a flagged case, fetch details by number with GET /v1/court-cases/{caseNumber} (1 credit).
  4. Need more than courts? GET /v1/company/{cui}/risk-report (30 credits) adds ANAF status, financials and registry status in one call.

Data protection

Court data follows data-protection rules: natural persons are masked and appear only with their procedural role, there is no search by person name, criminal cases show only company-level category, stage and dates, and cases closed more than 3 years ago are not returned (a case number whose every stage closed over 3 years ago returns HTTP 451 unavailable_data_protection, not billed).

How fresh is it?

The court portal itself can lag up to 24 hours behind the courts; results are cached for up to 24 hours.

Can I search by a person's name?

No, by design. Search is by company CUI or by case number.

Is this an official ANAF or government service?

No. HowToRomania is an independent service that reads public sources (ANAF, ONRC open data, portal.just.ro) and returns them as English JSON. It is not affiliated with or endorsed by any public authority. Information only; not legal or credit advice.
